MEET CAMILO MURCIA

Originally from Colombia, Camilo has lived in Australia since 2008. His career as an industrial designer and qualification as a chef has enabled Camilo to create amazing architecturally inspired designs, making the most from shapes, textures and explosions of colour.

Camilo creates edible contemporary art through his business By.Aletoso and his masterful use of buttercream and edible paper.  His incredible creations are world renowned and each is true to his mantra, 'be unique'.  

​

Through embracing this mantra, 'be unique', Camilo has created the Australian Buttercream, his signature, egg-less buttercream recipe made to last in warm climates, along with many new techniques and effects for working with buttercream. These include the fault-line cake, faux velvet effect, acrylic gloss technique and the corrugated buttercream effect.

 

Camilo's awards include Buttercream Artist of the Year, 2019-23, and Teacher of the Year, 2019, at the Australasian Cake Oscar Awards and Cake Decorator of the Year, 2020 & 2023 and Buttercream Artist of the Year, 2021 & 2022, at the Australian Cake Decorators Network Awards. He has taught his exclusive techniques in over 50 cities around the world across every continent except Antartica and to thousands of students through his online academy.
